Green light for the “Tren Maya”

At the end of 2019, the final decision was made to build a 1,500 km long train line through southeastern Mexico. The “Tren Maya” will pass through the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche and thus, several Mayan sites. Construction is expected to begin as early as spring of 2020. The main objectives of the construction of the new train line are the promotion of the ecotourism and the fight against poverty in neglected regions. The train is expected to carry three to eight million passengers per year and create tens of thousands of jobs.
